The first step in analyzing the data in a worksheet is often taken with Excel's sorting and filtering tools. These tools help you to control what is displayed in your data range, and how the values are organized. Key concepts covered in this 10-video course include how to sort data in a worksheet according to a specific data type; how to customize sort options when sorting data in a worksheet and sort data by using multiple criteria and sort levels; and how to create and use custom sort lists to sort data. Next, learn how to use column filters to filter data in a worksheet; to use column filters to apply multiple filters to data in a worksheet; and to create filter arguments by using text and number data types. Finally, you will learn to sort and filter data by using colors applied to data; learn to use the advanced filter tools to filter and extract data; and learn to use filter tools to hide duplicate values in a data range. In order to practice what you have learned, you will find the Word document named Excel 2019 for Windows: Sorting & Filtering Data Exercise as well as the associated materials in the Resources section.

3m 50sExcel's sort options can be used to organize and order the data in your table. You can specify the criteria that you use: you can, for example, sort a data range using alphabetical order or from smallest to largest value. FREE ACCESS
-
3m 1sExcel offers a number of additional tools that you can use to change how you sort your data. See how to include or exclude header data in your operation, change the sort orientation from vertical to horizontal, and apply case sensitive sorting. FREE ACCESS
-
3m 48sIn Excel, you can create multiple sort levels to change how your data is presented and create data groups within your range. You can also reorganize these levels to adjust how your data is grouped when sorting. FREE ACCESS
-
4m 36sWhen sorting data, you can use or create custom sort lists for data that doesn't sort alphabetically. This is particularly useful if your data contains days of the week or months of the year, or if you are sorting data that features text-based ranking systems, such as low, high, and urgent priorities. FREE ACCESS
-
3m 3sIn Excel, you can choose to show or hide different types of data. This is known as filtering. If you do not need a particular category or type of data, or if you want to focus on a specific data group, you can use the filter tools. You can specify criteria to include or exclude, or indicate the value that you want to visualize. FREE ACCESS
-
2m 38sColumn filters can be used to quickly show or hide different data values in your data range. You can use these column controls to apply multiple filters to your data. FREE ACCESS
-
5m 23sFilter arguments can be used to query the data in your range and show values that meet your defined criteria. You can create filters using text and numeric arguments, such as equals, contains, and between, and even add multiple arguments using "and" and "or". FREE ACCESS
-
3m 27sIf you have applied color coding to various data entries in your table, you can use these codes to sort and filter your data. You might, for example, want to visualize only the values that have been highlighted in red. FREE ACCESS
-
5m 27sIn Excel, you can create advanced filter criteria using a separate table. Once you have defined your criteria, you can launch the filter by defining your data range and selecting the cells you want to use as criteria. These criteria cells can be combined as much as you want to create powerful filter operations. FREE ACCESS
-
2m 29sExcel features an advanced filter tool that can be used to temporarily hide any duplicates that have been added to your data table. All you need to do is select the data range to be filtered and the location of your table. FREE ACCESS
