Meningococcal diseases are caused by the bacteria Neisseria meningitidis, also known as meningococcus. These diseases include bacterial meningitis, infection of the brain and spinal cord, bloodstream infections, and, more rarely, pneumonia. Meningococcal diseases are fatal in as many as 50% of cases, if untreated. And even when treated, it can be fatal in between 5% and 10% of cases.This course was developed and reviewed with subject matter support provided by certified subject matter experts and industry professionals.
