It's reasonable to expect that as an employee, you'll be assessed based on how well you can do your job rather than on how you look, where you come from or what you believe in. Equally, the people you work with should expect that you'll treat them fairly and with respect. Discrimination in the workplace violates these rights. Unlawful discrimination involves putting others at a disadvantage or treating them unfavourably on the basis of certain protected characteristics, such as race, gender or religion. This course will equip you to recognise the forms that unlawful discrimination can take in the workplace. You'll learn what discrimination involves and why it's important to avoid it. You'll be introduced to the main anti-discrimination laws that protect New Zealand workers and the potential consequences of violating these laws, for both organisations and individual employees. You'll also learn how to respond to discrimination if you encounter or experience it in your organisation. This course was developed with subject matter support provided by DLA Piper New Zealand.
