Collaboration engineers are routinely required to configure and troubleshoot gateways in a unified communication dial plan. In this course, you'll identify the components and configurations methods of Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) gateways. You'll begin by examining the characteristics of the MGC protocol and methods for configuring MGCP gateways. You'll then explore elements of the path selection process in the Cisco Unified Communication Manager (UCM) and identify their role in call processing. You'll finish the course by investigating digit manipulation patterns and how to configure and troubleshoot different telecommunication interface standards on an Integrated Services Digital Network (ISDN). This course is a part of a collection of courses that will prepare you for the 350-801: Implementing and Operating Cisco Collaboration Core Technologies (CLCOR) certification exam.

IN THIS COURSE

  • 1m 45s
In this video, you’ll learn more about your instructor and the course. In this course, you’ll learn ways to configure and troubleshoot MGCP Gateways in a UC dial plan. You’ll also discover the components and characteristics of the MGCP protocol and processes to configure gateways using MGCP. FREE ACCESS
  • 12m 28s
In this video, you'll learn how to outline the features of Media Gateway Control Protocol, MGCP. You'll discover this is a master-slave protocol where one device controls another. The CUCM acts as the master and controls the gateway. The gateway in turn registers to the master. More specifically, the CUCM system controls endpoints on the gateway, like FXO/FXS/T1 and /E1 ports. 3.  MGCP Gateway Configuration Methods
    5m 8s
In this video, you'll learn more about how to identify methods for Media Gateway Control Protocol (MGCP) gateways. You'll learn that most of the configuration of MGCP is done on CUCM, and minimal configuration is placed on the gateway. This ensures the gateway is added with the domain name field on CUCM and populated as hostname dot domain name. The domain name is the one specified with the IP domain name command. FREE ACCESS

    4.  Path Selection Process in Cisco Unified CM
    3m 20s
In this video, you’ll learn more about gateway configuration methods. You’ll learn the Path Selection process on CUCM includes multiple configuration components. The route pattern consists of a pattern that should match the dialed digits. The route group points to actual devices and has an algorithm defined for call distribution: circular, or top-down. Then you’ll learn more about devices that actually handle call routing. These can include gateways, trunks, or inter-cluster trunks. FREE ACCESS

    5.  Route Groups in Cisco Unified CM
    2m 42s
In this video, you'll learn about how to describe the role and significance of route groups in a dial plan. If there is more than one gateway or trunk in a route group, a routing algorithm comes into play. Circular is a round robin method of routing calls to the corresponding device in the trunk group. 6.  Route List and Route Pattern in Cisco Unified CM
    2m 48s
In this video, you'll learn how to identify the functions of route list and route pattern configuration elements. A route pattern points to a route list, and that's how calls are routed to the route groups and the devices within the groups. The order of the route groups in the route list matters. Route groups are selected in the order in which they're populated. FREE ACCESS

    7.  Digit Manipulation in Cisco Unified CM
    4m 41s
Collaboration engineers are routinely required to configure and troubleshoot gateways in a unified communication dial plan. In this video, you'll learn about how to recall different components of a dial plan and their ability to perform digit manipulation. On a CUCM this can be broadly classified into calling or called party manipulation. FREE ACCESS

    8.  Configuring MGCP Gateways in Cisco IOS and UCM
    6m 10s
This demo demonstrates MGCP configuration in Cisco IOS and UCM. In this demo, you'll set up your MGCP gateway with the CallManager and get it to register along with its endpoints to CUCM. To configure the gateway, you’ll first check UCM under "Device", "Gateway" and click "Add New". You’ll be asked to enter the Type of Gateway, which is the model number of the device we're using. After logging into the gateway, you’ll enter the command show version. FREE ACCESS

    9.  Configuring and Troubleshooting ISDN PRI/BRI
    6m 5s
In this video, you’ll watch a demo. In this demo, you'll configure call routing through CallManager over the MGCP PRI. You’ll make a call from your internal IP phone to a PSTN number. You’ll dial 999 on your IP phone. Once you press the digit 9, you’ll get a message stating that the call cannot be completed as dialed. You’ll learn this is the annunciator media resource on CUCM indicating that there was an issue. FREE ACCESS

    10.  Course Summary
    44s
In this video, you’ll summarize what you learned in the course. You’ve learned the features of MGCP and the configuration processes. You also learned about the path selection on CUCM, learned about route groups, route lists, and route patterns and configuring MGCP gateways, and troubleshooting ISDN. FREE ACCESS
