About the Authors
Robert C. Pozen is chairman emeritus of MFS Investment Management. He works with MFS and its management team in an advisory capacity, and also serves on the board of directors of the MFS Funds.
Bob joined MFS in 2004 as chairman and served in that role until 2010. He is currently a senior lecturer at Harvard Business School and is a senior fellow at the Brookings Institution. He recently served as chairman of an SEC advisory committee focused on improving the U.S. financial reporting system, and was a member of two private sector commissions studying global market competitiveness.
Before joining MFS in 2004, Bob was the John Olin Visiting Professor at Harvard Law School during 2002 and 2003. During 2003, he also served as Secretary of Economic Affairs for Massachusetts governor Mitt Romney.
In late 2001 and 2002, Bob had the distinction of serving on President Bush's Commission to Strengthen Social Security, and he developed a Social Security solvency proposal that was later embraced by the president.
From 1987 to 2001, Bob held numerous senior positions at Fidelity Investments, ending as vice chairman and president of Fidelity Management and Research Company. Before joining Fidelity, Bob served as associate general counsel for the SEC and taught at New York University.
Bob graduated summa cum laude from Harvard College with a Bachelor of Arts degree and earned a law degree from Yale Law School. He has authored many articles and books, including Too Big to Save: How to Fix the U.S. Financial System.
Theresa has been the president of NICSA since March 2008. NICSA (the National Investment Company Service Association) is the leading provider of independent education and networking forums to professionals in the global investment management community.
She has served as chief investment officer for Pioneer Investment Management USA in Boston, Massachusetts, where she oversaw a team of more than 50 investment professionals managing more than $15 billion in global equity and fixed income assets for mutual fund and institutional clients. She was previously the chief investment officer for Prudential Mutual Funds in Newark, New Jersey, where she supervised over $60 billion in assets. In 1984, she was the portfolio manager of the top-performing mutual fund in the United States, the Prudential-Bache (Tax-Managed) Utility Fund. She began her career in the investment industry in 1983 as a securities analyst.
Theresa is the co-author of The Pocket Idiot's Guide to Investing in Stocks (Alpha, 2006). She is a summa cum laude graduate of Yale College and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
