About the Author
Duane Birnbaum began programming in graduate school, where he wrote custom software for interfacing the electronic equipment required for his experiments and analyzing the data obtained from them. Since completing his Ph.D. in physical chemistry in 1991, he has worked as a post-doctoral and research scientist in academia and industry while continuing to teach on a part-time basis. He has been teaching courses in introductory programming, database design, and data analysis in the Computer Science department at Indiana University/Purdue University at Indianapolis for the past 8 years.
