Hadoop is one of the most exciting technologies to ever emerge and is transforming the computer industry. Although Hadoop is designed to process MapReduce queries, it has evolved into accepting SQL, and then converts that SQL to MapReduce. This has opened the door for millions of customers who want to take advantage of their SQL knowledge to query Hadoop systems. Tera-Tom Genius Series - Hadoop Architecture and SQL, written by Tom Coffing and Jason Nolander, details the architecture of Hadoop and the SQL commands available. This book is perfect for anyone who wants to query Hadoop with SQL. It educates readers on how to create tables, how the data is distributed, and how the system processes the data. In addition, it includes hundreds of pages of SQL examples and explanations. The Authors Tera-Tom Coffing, who has written over 75 successful books on Data Warehousing, and Jason Nolander, who has over 20 years of financial industry experience, have written a book that is sure to be your “go to” book on Hadoop.
About the Authors
Tom Coffing, better known as Tera-Tom, is the founder of Coffing Data Warehousing where he has been CEO for the past 20 years. Tom has written over 75 books on all aspects of Teradata, Netezza, Kognitio, Redshift, ParAccel, Vertica, SQL Server, and Greenplum. Tom has taught over 1,000 Teradata classes in places such as India, Africa, Europe, China, Malaysia, and throughout North America.
Tom is also the owner and designer of the Nexus Query Chameleon, the most sophisticated enterprise query tool in the industry. The Nexus works on all platforms, including Hadoop, converts table structures between all systems, and allows companies to load their ERwin logical model inside Nexus. The Nexus guides users like a GPS system. Users point and click on any table or view from any system, and they are guided to what joins to what. As users choose the columns they want on their report, the SQL is built automatically.
In high school, Tom was the first athlete from his school to ever place at state (in Ohio). He was selected by his school to represent them at Buckeye Boys State, and Tom was inducted into the first class of the Lakota High School Hall of Fame.
At the University of Arizona and University of Nevada Las Vegas, Tom was a two-time All-American wrestler, Sophomore Athlete of the year, and a two-time winner of the 1980 Olympic wrestling trials. Tom graduated with a Bachelor's degree in Speech Communications.
After college, Tom became a state and national champion speech winner for Toastmasters and won two orchid awards as an actor. Tom is the proud father of three wonderful children and has been married for the past 32 years.
Jason Nolander has over 20 years of financial services industry experience, including data quality management, systems development, compliance monitoring, operations, and global projects. Jason has worked in the financial services industry in both the United States and in England. During his time in England, he managed process improvement initiatives including systems projects. Jason has also worked in product development including emerging payment technologies. Jason also has experience in the aerospace industry, where he worked on system reliability for commercial and military aircraft.
Jason attended the University of Arizona, and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. In addition, Jason holds a Master of Science in Engineering from the University of Arizona, through the Systems & Industrial Engineering department, with a focus on Reliability and Quality Engineering. Jason is a certified Six Sigma Blackbelt.
