Flexible benefits are not new. As a concept, flexible benefit schemes (also known as 'cafeteria benefits' or 'flex plan') have been around for about two decades. What is new, however, is that more employers seem to be using them. Research by the CIPD and others shows an increase in the proportion of employers offering such schemes and a large number of organizations actively investigating the possibility of introducing a flex plan at its workplace.
