About the Author
Jack E. Appleman is an award-winning writer with more than 20 years' experience as a trainer, PR/communication professional, and professor. As president of SG Communications, he conducts writing workshops that enable corporate employees at all levels to write more productively. Among the many articles Appleman has published was a column titled “Writing Instruction Helps PR Pros Break Through to the Media” (PR Tactics and The Strategist Online), which earned him a Business Marketing Association 2007 Impact Award. His other articles have addressed the importance of clear and concise writing. He also speaks frequently on writing and communication skills.
In his career, Appleman has written copy and supervised other writers creating press releases, technical articles, proposals, new business letters, and PowerPoint presentations. These efforts have helped many companies achieve their communication goals.
As a professor, Appleman teaches writing and communication courses at Fairleigh Dickinson University and William Paterson University, both in New Jersey. He also teaches continuing education-credit classes on business writing for insurance producers and offers one-on-one writing coaching.
He received his bachelor of arts in communication from Ohio State University, Columbus, and his master of science degree in journalism from Ohio University, Athens. Appleman earned the Certified Business Communicator (CBC) designation from the Business Marketing Association (BMA). He is a past president of BMA’s New Jersey chapter and serves as vice president of marketing for the northern New Jersey chapter of the American Society for Training & Development.
