Leadership and Business Content Releases – May 2024
“Your mental health is everything — prioritize it. Make the time like your life depends on it, because it does.”
WELCOME TO MAY!
May is Mental Health Awareness Month, which is a time to recognize the importance of mental health and promote understanding and support for those who struggle with mental illness. Mental health is a critical part of overall health and well-being, yet it’s often overlooked and stigmatized. This month, we each have the opportunity to raise awareness and reduce the shame and silence surrounding mental health.
Mental health affects everyone, regardless of age, gender, race, or socioeconomic status. According to the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI), over 20% of American adults (more than 50 million) experience some sort of mental illness every year. That means that you or someone you know may be struggling with mental health issues, and it’s important to know that you are not alone.
Here are some ways you can support your own mental health and wellness:
- FOCUS ON SELF CARE by prioritizing exercise, healthy eating, getting enough sleep, and engaging in hobbies you enjoy
- CONNECT WITH OTHERS by maintaining social connections with friends and family members, or volunteer for a cause you’re passionate about in order to reduce feelings of isolation
- TALK TO SOMEONE by seeking the help of a mental health professional to learn strategies to manage your symptoms and improve your overall well-being
- PRACTICE MINDFULNESS by engaging in meditation, yoga, or deep breathing exercises to help reduce stress and anxiety while increasing feelings of calm and relaxation
So this month, let's come together to make a positive impact on mental health by spreading awareness and encouraging people to prioritize their well-being. By doing so, we can break down the stigma surrounding mental health and enhance access to care.
