Employees working for publicly trading companies might have access to information from time to time that can give them an edge when it comes to trading securities. Using information that is available to everyone to make smart trading decisions is acceptable. But when the information isn't available to the public, using it means you could be guilty of insider trading. Insider trading is illegal in New Zealand and therefore it's essential that employees understand what actions can be seen as insider trading so they can avoid them. In this course, you'll explore what insider trading is and who information insiders are. You'll gain a better understanding of the specific legal prohibitions in the Financial Markets Conduct Act 2013, and learn about the penalties individuals and companies can face if they don't comply. This course was developed with subject matter support provided by DLA Piper New Zealand.
