About the Author
EMILY KING is a nationally recognized expert on the transition from military service to civilian employment. She has worked extensively with organizations that hire and want to retain veterans, as well as with veterans directly. Emily’s business-focused approach emphasizes the role of the civilian hiring organization in making veterans successful and has directly contributed to the retention of veterans.
Prior to founding Military Transitions, Emily launched the successful organizational development consulting firm of King Street Associates, LLC, and spent ten years as an internal consultant and coach at the firm of Booz Allen Hamilton, leading a variety of programs and functions geared to building strong leaders and managers.
A frequent speaker and writer in the professional HR community, Emily has given presentations at national conferences of the Society of Human Resource Management (SHRM), American Society of Training and Development (ASTD), and the Multicultural Forum on Workplace Diversity. In 2010, ASTD published her primer on veterans in the workplace as a special edition of InfoLine. Emily has been published by Diversity Executive, T&D, and Training magazines. She has been featured in segments by CNN and appears regularly on WJLA’s ‘‘Capital Insider’’ program.
She has a Master’s of Science degree in Organization Development from Johns Hopkins University, as well as training as a leadership coach at Georgetown University. Emily King lives in Washington, D.C.
